Facility Support, Inc. was formed by the merger of two companies in March 1993, The Design Cooperative and The Dawson Company. Prior to the merger, The Design Cooperative, a Virginia corporation since 1980, provided design and construction services for facilities that support data processing systems. From 1990 to 1993, The Dawson Company provided consulting and marketing services to The Design Cooperative to compliment their expertise.From 1993 to today, Facility Support, Inc. has been successfully serving the Mission Critical Community.
R. Nelson Dawson - President, CEO
History
Nelson is a 1979 graduate of the College of William and Mary with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and a minor in Physics. From 1984 through 1990, as an independent contractor marketing Liebert computer room support equipment, he became a leading consultant in this highly specialized field. Owners, consulting engineers, and contractors relied heavily on Nelson for design, application and management of these critical systems. He was responsible for the design, application, and installation of over 3,000 tons of computer room air conditioning, over 250 tons of chilled water capacity for mainframe equipment, and over 30,000 kVA of UPS, generation and power distribution equipment. In 1990 he started The Dawson Company, and with the Design Cooperative, jointly pursued providing clients a single source to support their mission critical operations. In 1993 The Dawson Company merged with The Design Cooperative to form Facility Support, Inc.
Responsibilities
Since 1993, Nelson has been responsible for overall corporate management and marketing, and is a Senior Project Manager.
David R. Young, NCARB - Executive VP, Director of Architecture
History
David is a 1970 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. He holds registration in Virginia, Georgia, and North Carolina and holds a certificate from the National Council for Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) and is a member of ICC (International Code Council). By 1977 he became Vice President of Moseley Hening Associates, Inc., a Virginia based architectural firm. In 1978 he founded The Design Cooperative and began one of Richmond’s first Design/Build firms headed by a registered architect. In 1985 he began developing an expertise in the development and design of data centers and by 1990, jointly with The Dawson Company, exclusively pursued and dedicated his resources to this highly specialized area. In 1993 The Design Cooperative merged with The Dawson Company to form Facility Support, Inc.
Responsibilities
Since 1993, David has been responsible for all architectural design and production of construction documentation, and is a Senior Project Manager. David also serves as Corporate CFO directing fiscal policy.
